The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested another suspect linked to the kidnapping and killing of Eze Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, intensifying the ongoing investigation into the high-profile crime.
Police authorities disclosed the development on Monday, March 10, 2026, after operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit tracked and apprehended the suspect during an intelligence-driven operation. The spokesperson of the command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the arrest is part of the ongoing effort to unravel the criminal network responsible for the monarch’s abduction and murder.
The slain monarch, who was also the father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, was kidnapped on March 1, 2026, while travelling to church in Ndufu-Alike community. According to security sources, the attackers intercepted his vehicle, abducted him, and later killed him despite ransom negotiations.
The police explained that the latest suspect was arrested following fresh intelligence obtained from earlier detainees connected to the crime. Authorities believe the arrests will help dismantle the kidnapping syndicate operating within the area.
The investigation continues as police vow to ensure justice for the late monarch and strengthen security in the region.
