The University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Ondo (UNIMEDTH) has made a remarkable advancement in healthcare delivery with the recent procurement and distribution of essential medical equipment across its key clinical areas. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to enhancing patient care and improving clinical outcomes.

Among the newly acquired equipment are thirty-one high-end multiparameter monitors, which are set to revolutionize patient monitoring in the Accident and Emergency Unit, operating theatres, and post-surgical wards. In addition to these monitors, specialized equipment has been introduced to bolster the management of eye-related conditions, alongside various ancillary hospital tools aimed at supporting overall patient care.

A notable addition to the hospital’s laboratory is the Fluorescence Immunoassay Analyzer, which will facilitate specialized diagnostic tests and expand the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities. Furthermore, new incubators have been installed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to provide critical support for premature infants.

During the distribution ceremony, Professor Akinwunmi Akinbodewa, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), praised the Chief Medical Director, Professor Michael Olumide Gbala, for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the institution’s growth. He emphasized that the prudent utilization of resources by hospital management was pivotal in making these procurement efforts possible, leading to marked improvements in service delivery and patient care.

Professor Akinbodewa commended the strategic direction taken by the Chief Medical Director in fortifying the hospital’s infrastructure and medical equipment base, which he noted has already resulted in improved clinical outcomes and heightened patient satisfaction.

He also expressed gratitude to the Ondo State Government, led by His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for its steadfast support in the hospital’s ongoing development.

The Government’s commitment includes the comprehensive upgrade of UNIMEDTH, featuring the provision of cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic equipment such as a 160-slice cardiac-enabled CT scan, a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, 3D mammography systems, multiple 4D ultrasound machines, Digital Radiography, and a Urodynamic study machine. Plans for establishing a fully equipped In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) unit were highlighted as a significant milestone in expanding specialized healthcare services.

Additionally, ongoing development projects, including the construction of residential accommodation for resident doctors within the hospital quarters, reinforce the dedication of both the Government and hospital management to delivering world-class healthcare.

In a statement released on Thursday, Adeboyeku Tunde, the Public Relations Officer of UNIMEDTH, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to its mission of continuously improving healthcare delivery. He emphasized that the institution is dedicated to providing patients with high-quality, accessible, and efficient medical care.
