Air raid sirens rang out across Israel on Thursday as Iran launched multiple waves of missile attacks, triggering explosions in several cities despite interceptions by Israeli defence systems.
The Israeli military said most of the incoming projectiles were neutralised, but falling debris from the interceptions caused injuries and damage in populated areas. Emergency service Magen David Adom confirmed that seven people were wounded, including six in Kafr Qassem and one in Tel Aviv.
According to the military, at least seven waves of missiles were detected throughout the day, setting off alarms across central Israel, Jerusalem, Haifa and parts of the occupied West Bank. Residents in Tel Aviv reported repeated blasts from early morning, with the first siren sounding at about 6:49 a.m.
Images from affected areas showed damage to residential buildings in Tel Aviv, where metal fragments from intercepted missiles were scattered across apartments. In Kafr Qassem, visuals revealed a large crater and overturned vehicles, with local officials suggesting that cluster munitions may have been used.
Emergency responders were deployed to assess the damage and assist victims as tensions escalated across the region.
The strikes followed overnight attacks from Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah claimed responsibility for targeting Israeli military positions. Israeli authorities said several rockets were intercepted.
In a separate development, the military confirmed that one Israeli soldier was killed during fighting in southern Lebanon, raising the number of troops lost in the area to three since the conflict intensified on February 28.
