Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, led a delegation of prominent Northern Nigerian Christians clerics to this year’s Ramadan iftar gathering in Kaduna, reaffirming a 15-year tradition of strengthening peace, unity, and mutual understanding. between muslims and christians
The annual event, hosted at the residence of the late Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has for over a decade brought together Christian and Muslim leaders from across the 19 Northern states to engage in meaningful dialogue and promote peaceful coexistence among adherents of different faith-based organizations.
Speaking during the gathering, Barrister Dalung noted that this year’s iftar was particularly emotional following the recent passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who until his death after a brief illness had consistently hosted the interfaith iftar ramadan breakfast for years with the aims of promoting peace and unity among Nigerians and those in diaspora.
“For the past 15 years, we usually gathered here during Ramadan to break fast together, discuss issues affecting our communities, and deliberate on practical ways to strengthen peace and national unity,” he said.
Dalung emphasized that the late Islamic scholar dedicated his life to preaching peace, religious tolerance, and unity, adding that his legacy remains a guiding light for interfaith harmony in Nigeria.
He appealed to government to urgently address insecurity and rising instability across the country, stressing that sustainable peace is essential for development in all sectors.
He also offered prayers for the repose of the late cleric and encouraged his family to sustain the annual Ramadan interfaith initiative.
In his remarks, Yohanna Buru, General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Gwagyi Villa, Kaduna, highlighted the significance of this year’s spiritual season, noting that Ramadan and Lent commenced around the same period.
“We came to congratulate our Muslim brothers on the commencement of Ramadan and to further strengthen our long-standing relationship built on dialogue and mutual respect,” he said.
Pastor Buru described the late Sheikh as a father figure to many Christian leaders and prayed for God to grant him Aljannah Firdausi , in recognition of his service to humanity and peacebuilding.
He added that the Ramadan iftar continues to provide a vital platform for Muslim and Christian leaders to engage, deliberate, and promote religious tolerance, peace, and unity among citizens.
He also called on government authorities to take decisive steps to ease the economic hardship facing Nigerians due to the rising cost of living.

Responding on behalf of the family, Sheikh Ibrahim Usman Dahiru Bauchi expressed gratitude to the Christian delegation for honoring the invitation and sustaining the spirit of interfaith unity established by his late father.
He assured attendees that the family would continue promoting peace and strengthening relationships across religious divides.
He further called on Nigerians to remain prayerful and committed to peaceful coexistence regardless of prevailing challenges.
