Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has emotionally recounted a painful chapter in his life, alleging that his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, pressured his then-girlfriend, Lola, to terminate her pregnancy over fears it would damage the group’s career.
Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, the former P-Square member said the incident happened when he was 27 years old after Lola became pregnant with their first child.
According to Peter, he chose to publicly announce the pregnancy himself during the Soundcity Awards after receiving an award, saying he wanted to control the narrative rather than allow others break the news.
“I dedicated the award to God, our fans, everyone who supported us, and finally to the mother of my unborn child,” he recalled.
Peter claimed the announcement angered his brothers, who allegedly walked out of the event and insisted that Lola should abort the pregnancy because they believed it would ruin the music group’s career.
He further alleged that they forged an email in an attempt to frame Lola, claiming the unborn child was not his and accusing her of using the pregnancy to trap him.
The singer became emotional while recounting the experience, describing it as one of the most painful periods of his life.
Peter and Lola eventually got married and have remained together, while P-Square has experienced multiple public breakups and reconciliations over the years.
