Severe flooding has destroyed homes and valuable property across Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, prompting emergency rescue efforts by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to a statement issued by NEMA, its emergency response teams have commenced rescue operations and evacuated affected residents to safer locations to protect lives and provide immediate assistance.
The agency said assessment teams are also conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the destruction caused by the flooding, including damage to residential buildings, farmlands, public infrastructure, and sources of livelihood.
Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, led a state government delegation on an inspection tour of the affected communities. During the visit, she sympathised with families displaced or impacted by the disaster and assured them of the government’s commitment to providing necessary support.
NEMA urged residents in flood-prone communities to avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, comply with official safety advisories, and relocate to designated safe areas whenever flood warnings are issued.
The agency reiterated that adherence to early warning directives is essential to reducing the risk of casualties and minimizing the impact of flooding during the rainy season.
