Former Anambra State governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over an alleged threat against members of the Accord Party ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
According to reports, Fadahunsi was captured in a viral video making remarks interpreted as a call for his supporters to attack Accord Party members. Obi described the comments as “alarming and unacceptable,” warning that inflammatory political rhetoric could heighten tensions, frighten voters and potentially contribute to electoral violence.
Obi urged Fadahunsi to retract the statement and apologise to the people of Osun State. He also called on security agencies to monitor inflammatory statements and ensure that voters, election officials and citizens are adequately protected before, during and after the election.
However, Fadahunsi has since denied inciting violence, explaining that his reference to “killing” Accord was intended metaphorically to mean defeating the party with votes at the ballot box.
