AKURE, ONDO STATE – The Ondo State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Pastor Peter Olagookun, has declared that the “unprecedented achievements” of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have effectively secured the state for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday and sent via WhatsApp to Starnews NG, the former spokesman for the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ondo State argued that the political structures currently being established by the Governor have placed opposition presidential candidates in a precarious position, making it highly unlikely for them to secure even 25% of the votes in the state.
“I have always said that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has performed, and I didn’t hide it because what I am saying is the truth,” Pastor Olagookun stated. “The structure he has put in place in Ondo State has sealed the state for his presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and this will make it difficult for any serious presidential candidate of the opposition parties to have 25% of the votes in Ondo State.”
Addressing the state of the opposition, Olagookun contended that his own party, the NNPP, remains the only major opposition force with a genuine grassroots structure, despite the party currently lacking a presidential candidate. He dismissed the viability of other opposition parties, noting that internal fractures and a lack of organizational depth have left them struggling to maintain relevance.
“Go and check the other opposition parties that have presidential candidates in Ondo State; do they have a structure?” he questioned. “PDP has split into different factions in Ondo State now; you will see a candidate contesting for the 2027 general elections putting PDP and APM logos on one poster and billboard—they don’t even know where they belong.”
He further lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership style, specifically highlighting the recent social welfare initiative that provides a monthly stipend of ₦20,000 to senior citizens aged 70 and above across the state’s 18 local government areas.
“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a gentleman full of leadership skills and a good leader who has deepened democracy in Ondo State; that is why everybody is aligned with the EASE Agenda,” he added.
Regarding the NNPP’s position for 2027, Pastor Olagookun clarified that the party has yet to endorse a presidential candidate, stating, “The party will decide whom to support at the right time. We will let the public know and we will mobilize seriously for whoever the party chooses to support for the presidential election.”
However, he expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects for legislative seats, affirming, “We, the NNPP, have strong National Assembly candidates, and I am very confident that they are going to win the election in their various constituencies come the 2027 general elections.”
