Former Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki has come under criticism from a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following allegations that he is acting as a political intermediary for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in controversial land allocations in Abuja. The accusations surfaced on Thursday, March 12, 2026, intensifying the already fragile internal crisis rocking Nigeria’s main opposition party.
The allegation was reportedly made by Umar Sani, a PDP chieftain and former media aide to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, who claimed Saraki was allegedly serving as a “land agent” facilitating access to prime Abuja land through the FCT administration under Wike. The claim is tied to growing tensions within the party, where several members accuse Wike of undermining PDP structures despite holding a federal cabinet position under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
The controversy comes amid lingering disputes over the control of PDP leadership and political alignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Critics argue that the alleged alliance between Saraki and Wike could deepen divisions within the opposition party.
However, neither Saraki nor Wike had publicly responded to the allegation as of the time of reporting. Political analysts say the accusation reflects the deepening factional struggle within the PDP, as competing blocs maneuver for influence ahead of future electoral contests.
