Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to stop landlords and landladies from demanding more than three months’ rent from tenants if elected into office in 2027.
Sowore made the declaration in a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, March 28, 2026, where he promised to sign an executive order aimed at protecting tenants from exploitation across Nigeria.
According to him, “No landlord or landlady shall have the freedom to demand more than 3 months’ rent at a time.”
The activist further stated that on his “very first day in office,” he would sign an executive order ending what he described as the exploitation of tenants nationwide.
Sowore’s statement comes amid growing concerns over rising house rents and the increasing financial burden faced by tenants in different parts of the country, especially in major cities.
The post was shared with the hashtags #Sowore2027 and #TakeItBack as political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
