Over 200 KASU Lecturers Resign as ASUU Threatens Indefinite Strike

More than 200 lecturers at Kaduna State University (KASU) have reportedly resigned from the institution amid worsening working conditions and concerns over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) agreement.

The development has raised fresh concerns about the condition of Nigeria’s public university system, with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) warning that continued failure by authorities to address outstanding issues could trigger an indefinite strike.

The lecturers’ resignations are reportedly linked to concerns over remuneration, working conditions, funding and other welfare-related matters.

The situation could further worsen the staffing challenges facing KASU and affect teaching, research and academic activities.

ASUU has repeatedly criticised governments over what it describes as the failure to honour agreements reached with university workers.

The union has demanded concrete action on issues including funding, salaries, earned academic allowances, university autonomy and improved working conditions.

The latest development at KASU comes against the background of a broader crisis in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, where lecturers have frequently embarked on industrial action over unpaid allowances, inadequate funding and unfulfilled agreements.

The union is expected to consult with its members and relevant stakeholders before deciding on its next course of action.
