Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions and the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday, August 17, 2026.
According to the statement, the 60 per cent increase in subventions is intended to enable the institutions to meet their financial obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and improve their overall operating environment.
It reads partly, “In furtherance of his administration’s commitment to education and the welfare of workers, the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved two major interventions for all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.
“1. 60 Percent Increase in Subventions
Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved an immediate 60 percent increment in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.
“This decision is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the institutions to meet their obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries, and improve the overall learning environment for students and staff.
“2. Implementation of FG/Unions Agreement
The Governor has also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the Unions of Universities.”
The governor also approved the immediate implementation of the Federal Government–unions agreement across all relevant state-owned tertiary institutions.
The statement said the measure was designed to address longstanding welfare concerns, improve staff morale and bring the institutions in line with national standards.
Speaking on the approvals, Aiyedatiwa urged the management of the affected institutions to ensure the increased subventions were used judiciously, with priority given to staff welfare and academic excellence.
He also called on the unions to reciprocate the government’s decision by maintaining industrial harmony and focusing on the delivery of quality education to students.
The governor said his administration remained committed to making Ondo State a hub for quality tertiary education and would continue to take measures to support the state’s institutions.
