The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over a viral video in which he allegedly directed supporters of the All Progressives Congress to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The invitation followed widespread outrage over the senator’s comments, reportedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
According to the invitation letter dated August 11 and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of election matters in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Fadahunsi is expected to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
The police said the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the campaign.
The statement reportedly circulated widely across electronic and social media platforms.
In the viral video, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard allegedly calling on APC supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them,” he was quoted as saying.
The comments sparked reactions across the state, particularly as the election draws closer and political tensions continue to rise between supporters of the APC and Accord Party.
Fadahunsi has, however, denied any intention to promote violence, with his team explaining that the statement was metaphorical.
In a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator’s team said he was calling on APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box.
The team said the senator’s remarks had been misunderstood and insisted that his message was a call for voters to reject the Accord Party peacefully and democratically during Saturday’s election.
The police invitation comes amid heightened concerns over political violence in Osun ahead of the governorship poll.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord platform, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack his supporters, allegations the opposition party has disputed.
The police are expected to question Fadahunsi over the circumstances surrounding the remarks and determine whether they constitute an offence under relevant laws.
The development has further intensified scrutiny of political actors and campaign activities in Osun as security agencies prepare for Saturday’s governorship election.
