Ondo Voter Registration Exercise Successful, INEC Commends Residents

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of residents during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Ondo State, describing the turnout and level of compliance as encouraging.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Mutiu Agboke, made the assessment on Sunday while monitoring the final day of the Phase Three extension of the CVR exercise across the state.

According to Agboke, the registration process was peaceful, orderly and witnessed impressive participation in all 18 local government areas, reflecting growing public interest in the electoral process.

He attributed the high turnout to sustained voter education campaigns, public awareness efforts and the availability of the commission’s online registration platform, which helped ease the registration process.

Agboke noted that many eligible voters remained determined to register despite the exercise ending that day, describing their enthusiasm as a positive sign for Nigeria’s democracy.

He said the commitment shown by residents demonstrated increased awareness of the importance of voter registration and civic participation.

The REC also reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections, adding that the commission would intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election.

He disclosed that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) generated during the first, second and third phases of the registration exercise, including the extension period, would be harmonised before printing.

One of the registrants, 76-year-old evangelist Adegoroye Kayode, who visited the Ondo West Local Government registration centre to transfer his voter registration, said he delayed the process because he had recently relocated to a new area.

The Phase Three extension of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise commenced on May 11, 2026, and officially ended on July 26, 2026.

Agboke carried out the monitoring exercise alongside the commission’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs Tadese Adenike, and other INEC officials, who visited several registration centres across the Ondo Central and Ondo South Senatorial Districts.
