Ondo Police Arrest Two Over Hospital Cable Vandalism, Recover Stolen Items

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the vandalism of public infrastructure and theft of electrical cables at the General Hospital in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

The Command said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect government facilities and combat criminal activities across Ondo State under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported on May 6, 2026, after a concerned resident alerted police authorities that a suspect identified as Promise Godspower unlawfully entered the hospital premises and vandalised electrical installations before stealing electrical cables.

Police said the act caused serious damage to critical government infrastructure intended for public healthcare service delivery.

Following the report, detectives were deployed to the scene where preliminary investigations were conducted and evidence, including photographs of the damaged installations, was obtained.

Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, operatives of the Command arrested the suspect, who reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Further findings by investigators also implicated a security guard attached to the facility, identified as Pogbara Sigalo, for alleged negligence and possible connivance after reportedly abandoning his duty post at the time of the incident.

The police confirmed that the stolen electrical cables were recovered, while investigations have been intensified to determine whether other accomplices were involved.

Reacting to the development, CP Lawal condemned the alleged dereliction of duty by the security personnel, warning that negligence by individuals entrusted with safeguarding public assets poses serious threats to public safety and government infrastructure.

He assured residents that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and protection of public property, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
