Akinjopo Festus Femi, an indigene of Ondo State, has emerged as the South West Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
His emergence formed part of the constitution of the party’s South West Zonal Executive Committee during the establishment of the NDC’s pioneer leadership structure in Ondo State earlier in May 2026.
Akinjopo’s appointment comes at a time when the NDC is gaining attention as an emerging “third force” in Nigeria’s political landscape, following a wave of defections from major political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
The development also follows the emergence of Kennedy Peretei as the Ondo State Chairman of the NDC, a move seen by political observers as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As South West Assistant Publicity Secretary, Akinjopo will be expected to support the party’s communication strategy and public engagement efforts across the six states in the region Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ekiti State, and Ondo State.
Party stakeholders say the new zonal leadership is expected to play a key role in mobilising support, shaping public perception, and expanding the NDC’s presence across the South West geopolitical zone.
His emergence also coincides with the party’s National Convention scheduled for today, as well as preparations for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
