- Highlights key infrastructure and health sector milestones
AKURE, ONDO STATE — Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has highlighted significant milestones achieved by his administration in the health sector, pointing to the procurement of advanced diagnostic equipment as a major breakthrough for the state.
Speaking during a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Council at the Government House in Akure, the Governor revealed that his administration has procured modern medical equipment for various hospitals across the state. A key highlight of these efforts is the acquisition of an MRI machine and a CT scan for the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH). The Governor noted that this is a historic achievement, as Ondo State had never purchased an MRI machine since its creation.
Beyond diagnostic tools, the Governor outlined a broader expansion of healthcare infrastructure. He confirmed that contractors have been mobilised to sites for the construction of a 250-bed hospital in Ondo town, as well as 100-bed facilities in Okitipupa, Ikare, and Irele. These projects, he explained, are part of a wider effort to improve service delivery and ensure that residents have access to quality care.
The Governor also noted that his administration has prioritised human capital development in the sector. He disclosed that over 6,000 personnel have been recruited into the state government since he assumed office, a figure that includes a significant number of health workers and primary healthcare personnel. Furthermore, ad-hoc health workers have been converted to full-time employees to strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
Following his review of these sectoral achievements, Governor Aiyedatiwa shifted his focus to the political climate, unveiling the party’s mobilisation plan for the 2027 general elections. He urged members of the APC to remain united, declaring that the party has only one structure in the state and must operate as one indivisible family.
Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the activation of the Elders Council across all 18 local government areas to ensure grassroots engagement. He also rallied support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crediting the President’s economic reforms for increasing the resources available to states to execute vital projects.
“The development of Ondo State, the success of my administration, and the party’s electoral prospects are intertwined,” the Governor stated. He warned against factionalisation, insisting that the party must work collectively to secure victory in the upcoming elections at the federal and state levels.
The APC State Chairman, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, and the Chairman of the Elders Council, Senator Nimbe Farukanmi, both commended the Governor’s leadership. They noted that the administration’s tangible progress in health, infrastructure, and security serves as a strong foundation for the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
