Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians and leaders at all levels to renew their commitment to building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by fallen members of the Armed Forces.
Obi made the call while marking Armed Forces Remembrance Day, describing the occasion as a solemn moment to reflect on the courage and selflessness of soldiers who gave their lives in defence of the nation.
He noted that fallen soldiers endured harsh conditions and stood on the frontlines to protect the peace and security enjoyed by citizens, stressing that their legacy lives on in the hearts of the people they served.
According to him, the most meaningful way to honour fallen heroes is by promoting peace, justice and national progress through responsible leadership that gives hope to citizens.
Obi also acknowledged the pain borne by the families of fallen soldiers, describing the remembrance as a constant reminder of loved ones lost in service to the nation. He assured them that the sacrifices of their relatives would never be forgotten.
He further offered prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen military personnel and called for sustained national gratitude for their service and dedication.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually to honour Nigerian military personnel who lost their lives during the World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, peacekeeping missions and ongoing internal security operations.
