Former National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Eddy Olafeso, has called on Nigerians to unite against what he described as tyranny and worsening hardship confronting the country, warning that citizens can no longer remain silent amid growing economic and security challenges.
Olafeso made the call during an interview with Nigerian Tribune while speaking on Nigeria’s political and socio-economic situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP chieftain said the current realities in the country demand collective action from citizens, political actors and stakeholders, insisting that Nigerians must stand together to confront governance failures and difficulties affecting ordinary people.
According to him, the nation is passing through a difficult period marked by hardship, insecurity and widespread dissatisfaction among citizens.
He lamented that many Nigerians are struggling under harsh economic conditions, while insecurity continues to disrupt livelihoods and threaten national development.
Olafeso also expressed concern over the state of agriculture and food security, disclosing that insecurity forced him to abandon farming activities after suffering losses on his farmland.
“I was a farmer. I left the farm. Fifty hectares of land, my cassava was uprooted and my resources destroyed and depleted. My staff members were all harassed out of the farm,” he said.
He warned that insecurity across farming communities could worsen food shortages and deepen economic hardship if urgent interventions are not introduced.
According to Olafeso, ungoverned spaces are expanding across parts of the country, creating fears over national stability and development.
He argued that Nigerians must unite irrespective of political or regional differences to resist what he termed the “tyranny” affecting the country.
“We must do everything possible to be united against the tyranny that is actually plaguing the country,” he stated.
Olafeso further noted that the challenges confronting Nigeria go beyond politics and require sincere leadership, accountability and a renewed national direction.
He maintained that unless decisive steps are taken to address hardship and insecurity, governance challenges may continue to worsen in the years ahead.
