The Nigerian Navy, through Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, on Tuesday carried out a free medical outreach and educational programme at the Nigerian Navy Primary School, Mobil Road, Apapa, Lagos State, as part of activities marking the Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
The humanitarian exercise, which combined healthcare services with educational support, was led by the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, in line with directives from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, encouraging naval formations to deepen engagement with host communities through impactful outreach initiatives.
Officials said the programme reflects the Navy’s broader civil-military cooperation strategy aimed at improving community wellbeing and strengthening trust between security institutions and civilians.
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, also encouraged units under his command to implement people-focused initiatives capable of enhancing community relations and supporting social development.
The outreach featured free medical consultations, basic health screenings, distribution of prescribed medications, and health awareness campaigns targeted at pupils, teachers, parents, and nearby residents.
In addition to healthcare services, the programme included an educational component where pupils received learning materials to support academic development. The children were also sensitised on discipline, civic responsibility, patriotism, and national values.
Speaking at the event, Commodore Adams-Aliu reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to national security while also contributing to community development and human capacity building.
He noted that the initiative reflects the Navy’s resolve to positively impact Nigerians, particularly young people, whom he described as critical to the nation’s future.
He further emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare and education, urging pupils to remain disciplined, focused on their studies, and committed to values such as integrity and excellence.
School authorities, including the head teacher, PTA leadership, and parents, commended the Nigerian Navy and NNS BEECROFT for the intervention, describing it as timely, impactful, and community-driven.
They praised the Navy’s continued support for host communities and its role in promoting unity, wellbeing, and national development through such outreach programmes.
The initiative highlights the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations while reinforcing its role as a professional institution committed not only to maritime security but also to social development.
