Nigerian Army Boosts Professional Training Through U.S. Academic Partnership

The Nigerian Army has pledged to strengthen professional military education through sustained collaboration with the Defense Security Cooperation University in the United States.

The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while receiving a DSCU Nigeria Programme delegation at Army Headquarters.

According to Mr. Shaibu, professional military education remains essential for building a modern, adaptive, and mission-ready force capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

“The Nigerian Army will continue participating in DSCU programmes focused on defence management, logistics systems and institutional capacity development,” he said.

He explained that exposure to specialised training and international academic platforms helps sharpen strategic thinking, strengthen defence management, and deepen institutional knowledge within the military.

“This will better prepare our personnel to manage complex operational and administrative responsibilities in contemporary military environments,” Mr. Shaibu added.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the DSCU delegation, Miguel Casteyanoss, said the engagement is aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in partner nations.

Mr. Casteyanoss noted that DSCU provides specialised courses and advisory support designed to improve defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

He added that the collaboration also supports institutional systems within the army, including material readiness, reporting mechanisms, and life-cycle management frameworks.

“Continued participation of Nigerian Army personnel in DSCU programmes will enhance professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development,” he said.

The renewed partnership is expected to deepen defence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States while boosting the Nigerian Army’s professional training and operational readiness.
