A 101-year-old great-grandmother has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Ilisan, Ogun State.

The suspect, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in small sachets for sale.

According to the NDLEA, Ogunmabo told investigators that she turned to the illicit drug trade after a fire destroyed her provisions shop.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the centenarian claimed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days.

She reportedly told operatives that she sold the substance in small quantities to people in the community.

The NDLEA said the arrest was part of its ongoing operations against illicit drug trafficking across the country.

Babafemi added that the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), had directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and undergo counselling in view of her advanced age.

Her daughter, who was allegedly involved in arranging the supply of the cannabis, has also been arrested, according to the agency.

The NDLEA said investigations into the case are ongoing.
