Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell marginally to 15.39 per cent in August 2026, extending the recent moderation in the country’s inflationary pressure, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The latest figure represents a 0.04 percentage-point decline from the 15.43 per cent recorded in July 2026.

On a year-on-year basis, however, the decline was significantly larger. The August 2026 rate was 7.75 percentage points below the 23.14 per cent recorded in August 2025.

The NBS disclosed the figures in its latest inflation report released on Tuesday.

“In August 2026, the Headline inflation rate stood at 15.39%, down from 15.43% in July 2026 and stood at 23.14% in the same month of the preceding year (August 2025),” the statistics agency said.

It added, “Looking at the movement, the August 2026 Headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.04% compared to the July 2026 Headline inflation rate.”

The latest data points to a continued easing of headline inflation, although the monthly movement between July and August remained relatively modest.

Further details on the components driving the August inflation rate are expected from the NBS.
