The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied reports that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South or entered into any agreement with former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the next general election.
The party made the clarification on May 7, 2026, following growing speculation over alleged arrangements involving Jonathan and the party’s emerging coalition discussions.
In a statement issued by its national leadership, the NDC described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that no decision has been taken regarding zoning or endorsement of any presidential aspirant.
The party stated that consultations are still ongoing and that all decisions concerning the 2027 election would follow due process and internal democratic mechanisms.
The clarification comes amid increasing political realignments and coalition talks involving opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential race. Former President Jonathan has also not publicly declared interest in contesting the election as of the time of filing this report.
