At least six persons have been confirmed dead following a bomb explosion along the Bagega–Anka road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, while several others sustained injuries in the incident.
The explosion occurred on May 7, 2026, when a commercial vehicle reportedly ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by armed bandits operating in the area. Local sources said the victims were travelling from Bagega to Anka when the blast occurred.
The Nigeria Police Force in Zamfara confirmed the incident, stating that six passengers died instantly while other injured victims were taken to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment. Security personnel have since been deployed to the area for surveillance and to prevent further attacks.
The Bagega–Anka axis has remained one of the most dangerous routes in the state due to persistent bandit attacks and growing use of explosives by armed groups. Security analysts say the latest incident reflects an escalation in tactics by criminal gangs operating in northwestern Nigeria.
