NAF Crash: Aiyedatiwa Orders Fumigation of Igbokoda River, Health Kits for Residents

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has directed the fumigation of the river in Igbokoda following complaints from residents about a strong stench emanating from the site of last week’s Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash.

The directive, announced on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, is aimed at preventing a possible outbreak of diseases in the riverine community.

Aiyedatiwa also directed the Ministries of Environment and Health to distribute nose masks and other essential health kits to residents to protect them from potential health hazards.

The governor further instructed the Ilaje Local Government to arrange water tankers to supply potable water to residents if assessments confirm that the river is severely polluted and unsafe for use.

According to the statement, the emergency water supply arrangement will remain in place pending a lasting solution to the pollution concerns.

The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing recovery efforts while prioritising the safety and welfare of residents in the affected community.

The development follows growing concerns over the river’s condition after the crash, as residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities depend on the waterway for their livelihoods.
