The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted an air operation against suspected kidnappers in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, providing close air support to ground forces operating near the Enugu-Benue boundary.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities in the area, according to the NAF.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the air operation disrupted the activities of the suspected criminals and supported the advance of surface forces.
The NAF did not disclose the number of suspected kidnappers killed or whether any casualties were recorded during the operation.
The operation also attracted attention after the helicopter involved made a precautionary landing while returning to base. Ejodame said the pilot exercised professional discretion to land approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield after completing the mission.
He explained that the landing was carried out in line with established operational and safety procedures following combat missions.
The NAF subsequently confirmed that the helicopter returned safely to base, dismissing concerns arising from reports about the aircraft’s landing.
The Air Force said it would continue to provide close air support to ground troops and sustain pressure on criminal elements as part of wider efforts to protect communities and restore security in affected areas.
The latest operation comes amid continuing security challenges in parts of Benue, particularly along areas bordering neighbouring states where kidnapping and other criminal activities have remained a concern.
