The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the sudden death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly collapsed while staying at a hotel in Dutse with a 20-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, according to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and published on the police command’s official Facebook page.
Police said the deceased had checked into the hotel with the young woman before requesting a meal. Moments later, he reportedly developed breathing difficulties and began gasping for air, prompting hotel staff to raise the alarm.
Officers attached to the Yalwawa Police Division responded to the distress call and rushed the man to the General Hospital, Dutse, where doctors made efforts to save his life. He was, however, certified dead by medical personnel.
As part of the investigation, detectives searched the hotel room and recovered food items, drinks, a substance suspected to be a sexual enhancement drug, and other personal belongings. The items have been taken into police custody for forensic examination.
The police said the deceased’s remains were later released to his family for burial at their request.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased has been assisting investigators by giving her account of the events leading up to the incident.
The command said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and cause of the man’s death, urging members of the public to avoid speculation until the inquiry is concluded.
