Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that the students and teachers abducted by suspected bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of the state are still being held within the vast Old Oyo National Park.
The governor, who gave the update on Friday, said intelligence reports indicated that the victims remained in captivity 27 days after they were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esiele communities.
Makinde, however, assured residents that security agencies were intensifying efforts to secure the safe release of the abductees, stressing that every credible lead was being pursued.
According to him, “The victims are still being held within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis. Every credible lead is being pursued and every lawful measure is being deployed to secure their safe release.”
The governor noted that the vast and difficult terrain of the national park, which stretches across several local government areas, has posed significant operational challenges for security operatives involved in the rescue mission.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, support security agencies with useful information, and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of undermining ongoing rescue efforts.
The abducted students and teachers were taken from their schools on May 15, 2026, during attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Ahoro-Esiele, leaving families and communities anxiously awaiting their return.
