The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast light rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Lagos and several southern states, while predicting hazy conditions across the northern region for Wednesday.
In its Daily Weather Outlook for March 4, 2026, issued on Tuesday, the agency said residents of Lagos State, Ondo State and other southern states should expect early morning cloudiness with intervals of sunshine, followed by thunderstorms accompanied by light rain in some areas.
NiMet stated that moderate dust haze is expected across the northern region, with thick dust haze anticipated over Katsina State and Kano State. The agency noted that the hazy conditions are likely to persist into the afternoon and evening hours.
For the North-Central region, slight dust haze is predicted in the morning and is expected to continue later in the day.
In the southern part of the country, NiMet projected prospects of thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Ondo, Akwa Ibom State and Cross River State during the early hours.
The agency further stated that isolated thunderstorms with light rain are expected later in the day over parts of Lagos, Ogun State, Edo State, Oyo State, Delta State, Bayelsa State, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.
NiMet warned that dust haze could significantly reduce horizontal visibility, advising individuals with respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions. It also cautioned that thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds, urging residents in affected areas to remain vigilant.
The agency encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective planning and safe flight operations.
