Real Madrid and Brazilian forward Rodrygo will miss the remainder of the 2025–26 season and the FIFA World Cup after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), confirmed by club medical officials.
The injury occurred during a training session at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas facility near Madrid, Spain, where the forward had been preparing for domestic and continental competition.
The why behind the extended absence is the severity of the ACL tear, which typically requires 6–9 months of rehabilitation following surgery and physiotherapy. Rodrygo’s injury not only ends his campaign with Real Madrid but also rules him out of Brazil’s World Cup squad, where he had been poised to play a pivotal role in the Seleção’s attacking lineup. Coach Dorival Júnior must now adjust tactics to compensate for the loss of one of his most dynamic wingers.
Real Madrid faces a challenging second half of the season without Rodrygo, whose pace, creativity, and goal contributions were key to both La Liga and Champions League ambitions. Analysts warn the injury highlights broader issues of player workload and squad depth, emphasizing the physical toll of elite football. Rodrygo’s rehabilitation will be closely monitored, with supporters and pundits hoping for a full recovery in time for the next international cycle.
