The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has urged the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the NDC.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.
He called on the former Vice-President to step aside in favour of the NDC presidential ticket, assuring him that his interests would be protected if the party wins the election.
“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.
The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to build a common front against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku remains one of the major opposition figures seeking the presidency in the next election.
Kwankwaso and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi were previously associated with the ADC before moving to the NDC in May amid reported internal divisions and legal disputes.
Their departure from the ADC has added another layer to the evolving realignment among opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 polls.
