Kogi Varsity Expels Two Students Over Alleged Same-Sex Relationship, Suspends Four for Fighting

The management of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students over alleged involvement in a same-sex relationship and suspended four others for one academic session for fighting on campus.

The disciplinary measures were approved at the 31st Regular Meeting of the University’s Senate following recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, according to a statement issued by the institution’s Information and Protocol Unit.

The statement said the affected students were formally notified through letters signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Eli Gbadafu.

“The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has approved the expulsion of two students for involvement in gay practice and the rustication of four others for one academic session over acts of fighting on campus,” the statement read.

The university explained that the sanctions were imposed in accordance with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook (Second Edition), as amended in 2025.

The expelled students were identified as Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education and Abdulazeez Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering.

Those suspended for one academic session are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology, Zainab Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry, and Sukura Bukola, also of the Department of Biochemistry.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining discipline and academic excellence, the university said it would continue to enforce its rules without hesitation.

“The University Management reiterates its commitment to maintaining discipline, order and a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the statement added.

It warned that it would not hesitate to impose appropriate disciplinary measures on any student found guilty of violating the institution’s regulations.

The management also advised students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and conduct themselves in line with the university’s established rules and regulations.
