The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved a conviction and sentencing of Janet Theophilus Danjuma by Justice S. M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano for committing investment fraud amounting to N22,350,000 (Twenty-Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).
Danjuma was brought to court on Monday, February 16, 2026, facing a single charge related to obtaining money under false pretenses.
The charge states: “That you, Janet Theophilus Danjuma, while employed at Taj Bank Limited, Nai’bawa Branch in Kano, during October 2024, within the jurisdiction of this court, with the intent to defraud, obtained N22,350,000 (Twenty-Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from Wade Bamaiyi, under the false pretense that the funds would be invested in the CASA Program of Taj Bank Limited, knowing that this pretense was false, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offenses Act 2006, punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”
Upon her arraignment, the charge was presented to her, and she entered a guilty plea. Following this, the prosecuting attorney, Sadiq Huseini, outlined the case details, explaining how Danjuma misled her victims by using the name of a legitimate financial product to gain their trust.
He requested the court to impose a sentence as mandated by law.
As a result, Justice Shuaibu convicted Danjuma and sentenced her to five years in prison without the option of a fine.
Danjuma’s conviction stemmed from her fraudulent actions that led her victims to invest a total of N22,350,000 in a fictitious investment scheme, falsely asserting that she would invest the money in the Taj Bank CASA (Current Account Savings Account) program.
However, an investigation by the Commission revealed that all the funds were traced to her personal account, leading to her prosecution and conviction.
