The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Jatau, over the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Rebecca Jeremiah, in the Romi area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 5, after police received information that Jeremiah’s lifeless body was found along Mai Angwa Street, Romi.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, detectives from the Romi Outstation responded to the scene and took the victim to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The police said Jatau was reportedly the last person to contact the deceased after inviting her to meet him at a beer parlour in Romi. He was subsequently traced and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Igabi Local Government Area.
During interrogation, the police alleged that Jatau confessed to having a fight with Jeremiah in his room over a phone call from another woman.
He reportedly told investigators that the altercation resulted in her death, after which he allegedly dumped her body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue and is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned violence and urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully, assuring that the command would work to ensure justice for the victim.
