The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has approved 150 as the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination score for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025 admission exercise.
The decision was reached on Monday during the 2026 policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions held in Abuja.
The benchmark, officially referred to as the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Score, implies that universities across the country are not permitted to admit candidates who score below 150 in the UTME.
The decision followed deliberations and voting by heads of tertiary institutions, including vice-chancellors, at the policy meeting.
Despite the approved benchmark, universities are allowed to fix higher cut-off marks for prospective candidates seeking admission into their institutions.
Last year, universities adopted 150 as the minimum benchmark, while polytechnics and colleges of education retained 100.
The annual policy meeting organised by JAMB is aimed at setting admission guidelines and determining benchmarks for tertiary institutions nationwide.
