Governor Bala Mohammed has declared that he no longer aligns strictly with any political party, describing himself as a “freelance politician” amid ongoing consultations ahead of future elections.
The governor made the remark on Thursday while hosting Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, alongside stakeholders from the South-East in Bauchi State.
According to Mohammed, the meeting was part of broader political engagements focused on unity and cooperation across party lines.
“Neither PDP nor ADC is standing alone. I am a freelance politician now, and his party is also in limbo. We are looking up to the judiciary,” he said.
He noted that discussions among opposition figures could reshape political alignments, stressing that a common platform would eventually be necessary.
“We cannot operate without a platform. The current situation may even help unify us and strengthen our chances of winning elections,” he added.
Mohammed described Obi’s visit as a symbolic step toward bridging regional divides and fostering national cohesion.
“He is talking about unifying the country, building bridges, and creating a new tomorrow for Nigeria. We feel highly honoured by this visit,” the governor said.
On his part, Obi explained that the engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration and national unity, rather than encouraging political defections.
“We are not inviting each other into political parties; we are inviting ourselves to build a better Nigeria,” he said.
The meeting signals ongoing behind-the-scenes consultations among key political figures as momentum gradually builds toward future electoral contests.
