The Bauchi State Police Command has reiterated that the state government’s restriction on the operation of motorcycles and tricycles during night hours remains in force, warning that violators will face strict legal consequences.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, noting that the directive prohibits motorcycle operations from 8:00 p.m. and tricycle movements from 10:00 p.m. as part of efforts to curb criminal activities often carried out under the cover of darkness.
The police also dismissed allegations circulating on social media by one Ishak Abubakar, popularly known as “Major,” who claimed he was assaulted and denied his fundamental rights, describing the claims as malicious, misleading and an attempt to undermine ongoing security operations in the state.
According to the statement, the incident in question occurred on April 18, 2026, when personnel of the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency were enforcing the Executive Order at Wunti underpass and intercepted individuals allegedly violating the restriction. The suspects were said to have contacted Ishak Abubakar, who upon arrival allegedly confronted the enforcement team, accused them of extortion, and used abusive language.
The Command stated that his actions resulted in obstruction of lawful duty, disturbance of public peace and attempts to incite unrest among motorcycle and tricycle operators, leading to his arrest following police intervention.
He was subsequently arraigned before a Magistrate Court on April 20, 2026, on charges bordering on obstruction, assault and insult of public officers, while the police added that observations were recorded during his detention regarding his conduct in custody.
The Command further disclosed that a team of investigators has been constituted to examine the incident and establish the facts, assuring that due process would be followed in handling the matter.
While warning against acts of lawlessness, the Commissioner of Police stressed that the Command would not tolerate any attack on security personnel in the discharge of their duties, urging members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and justice, while advising the public to disregard unverified claims and rely on official channels for accurate information, maintaining that enforcement of the Executive Order will continue across the state.
