Hull City Shock Manchester United 2-0 In Premier League Opener

Newly promoted Hull City began their return to the Premier League in spectacular fashion on Saturday, defeating Manchester United 2-0 at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers, back in England’s top flight after a lengthy absence, produced a disciplined and energetic display to punish United with two goals before half-time.

Nigeria international Semi Ajayi gave Hull the lead in the 17th minute, reacting quickest around the box after a set-piece situation to put the hosts ahead.

United were unable to recover from the early setback and conceded again before the interval. Nobel Mendy headed home in the 38th minute following a delivery from Regan Slater, giving Hull a two-goal advantage at the break.

Although Manchester United enjoyed the greater share of possession, Carrick’s men struggled to turn their control of the ball into clear-cut opportunities.

Hull, meanwhile, remained compact and organised after taking the lead, frustrating United’s attacking players and protecting their advantage through the second half.

The result represents a dream start for Hull on their return to the Premier League and a major setback for United in Michael Carrick’s first competitive match of the new campaign.

The victory was particularly significant for Hull, who had not defeated Manchester United in a league meeting for more than five decades.

United’s supporters expressed their frustration after the final whistle, with several fans taking to social media to criticise the team’s performance and the manner of the defeat.

However, the afternoon ended in celebration as the newly promoted side secured three points against one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs and announced their return to the top flight in emphatic fashion.
