Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, has pledged to work towards securing victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election following his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.
Yari, reacting to his appointment on Saturday, expressed appreciation to Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, describing the new responsibility as one he accepted with seriousness.
He said the task ahead would go beyond organising an election campaign, stressing that the APC would need to engage Nigerians directly on the direction of the country and the future the party intends to build.
According to Yari, the campaign would be driven by discipline, unity and respect for Nigerians across different regions, faiths and political affiliations.
He urged APC members and supporters to take ownership of the campaign, saying every party member had a role to play in the effort to retain the presidency.
Yari also appealed to Nigerians outside the APC to consider supporting Tinubu’s second-term bid, arguing that the party would seek to earn their confidence through its record in government.
He said the campaign would prioritise engagement with citizens rather than excessive political rhetoric.
The senator concluded by expressing confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in January 2027, attributing the expected success to collective effort and divine favour.
The APC on Saturday unveiled its 108-member Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Tinubu was named chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were appointed vice-chairmen.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary, while APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman were appointed deputy secretary and assistant secretary respectively.
