Fear and tension gripped residents of Oyo State after armed gunmen reportedly attacked a secondary school, killing a teacher and abducting several students alongside the school principal.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed attackers invaded the school premises during operational hours, causing panic among students, teachers, and nearby residents.
According to reports, the assailants opened fire during the attack, leading to the death of a teacher while several students and the principal were forcefully taken away.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived suddenly and operated for several minutes before escaping through nearby routes believed to connect surrounding rural communities.
The attack reportedly forced many students to flee for safety as security agencies and local vigilantes mobilised to the area.
Security operatives have since launched search-and-rescue operations aimed at locating the abducted victims and tracking down the gunmen responsible for the attack.
Authorities in Oyo State condemned the incident and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to restore calm and strengthen security around schools.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over insecurity within educational institutions across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities increasingly vulnerable to kidnappings and violent criminal activities.
