Tension has gripped residents of Osun State following the abduction of a local government vice chairman by unidentified gunmen, prompting a coordinated rescue operation by security agencies.
The victim, identified as Azeez Akinloye, Vice Chairman of Isokan Local Government Area, was reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening along the Apomu-Ikire Road while returning from an official engagement. According to reports, the armed assailants intercepted his vehicle, forced him out, and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command said an investigation had commenced and tactical teams had been deployed to track down the kidnappers and secure the victim’s safe release. Police authorities also assured residents that every available resource was being utilized to rescue the abducted official.
The incident has renewed concerns over the growing insecurity affecting parts of the country, particularly the increasing targeting of public office holders, business owners, and commuters by criminal gangs.
Security analysts warn that kidnappings continue to undermine public confidence and threaten economic and social activities.
As of the time of filing this report, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction, and the kidnappers had not publicly issued any ransom demand.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
