Ghana Is Not Nigeria – Afia Warns South Africa Amid Xenophobic Attacks

By Paul Joseph

A Ghanaian media personality, Afia Schwarzenegger, has sparked fresh debate across social media following a strong warning directed at South Africans over renewed xenophobic tensions.

In a widely circulated video, Schwarzenegger reacted to reports of attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, expressing outrage and cautioning that Ghana would not tolerate similar treatment of its citizens.

“Ghana is not like Nigeria and we won’t hesitate to return the stupid favour,” she said, in a statement that has since drawn mixed reactions online.

Her remarks come amid growing concern over recurring xenophobic incidents in South Africa, where migrants from other African countries have periodically faced hostility, violence, and displacement.

While Nigerian nationals have often been among those affected in past incidents, Schwarzenegger’s comments suggest a broader regional frustration.

The statement has ignited conversations about African unity, diplomacy, and the need for stronger protections for migrants within the continent.

Critics argue that such rhetoric could escalate tensions, while supporters say it reflects justified anger over repeated attacks.

As discussions continue, stakeholders across Africa are urging calm and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, emphasizing the importance of dialogue over retaliation.
