An Uber driver has been arrested in Lagos after allegedly diverting an iPhone 16 meant for delivery, following the cancellation of a trip midway.
The incident gained public attention after an X user, identified as Ashake (@Molayoo_), raised the alarm online, tagging Uber and detailing the situation.
According to her, the package was picked up in Egbeda for delivery to Ikeja before the driver allegedly cancelled the trip and became unreachable.
“Uber, one of your riders in Lagos picked up a package (an iPhone 16) from Egbeda to be delivered to Ikeja, but cancelled the ride midway and has been unreachable ever since.
This is someone’s business, we need the package,” she wrote.
Efforts to track the suspect later proved successful. In an update shared on Thursday, the complainant confirmed that the driver, identified as Augustine Adimabua, had been apprehended and handed over to authorities.
She further alleged that the device, reportedly valued at over ₦1 million, was sold for ₦400,000.
“He has been caught and handed over to the appropriate authorities. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this possible,” she added.
In videos circulating online, the suspect admitted receiving the phone. “I agree he gave me an iPhone 16, 256GB, worth about ₦1.2 million,” he said, while claiming the device had been stolen an assertion that drew skepticism from those present during the confrontation.
The incident has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with users recounting similar experiences involving missing deliveries and calling for stricter accountability measures within ride-hailing and logistics services in Lagos.
