A school shooting in Banga, South Cotabato, Philippines, has left one person dead and four others injured.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, while police also acknowledged the shooting.
Authorities have yet to release details about the victims, circumstances surrounding the attack or the identity of the suspected shooter.
The Department of Education expressed concern over the incident and the safety of students and staff at the affected school.
The shooting comes amid a series of recent school-related attacks in the southern Philippines.
In August, a student in Zamboanga reportedly livestreamed the shooting and killing of another student inside a classroom before taking his own life.
Earlier in June, three students were killed and about 20 others injured after two classmates reportedly opened fire at a public high school in Tacloban.
Although the Philippines has strict firearm ownership regulations, including background checks and psychological evaluations, authorities continue to face challenges over the circulation of illegal firearms.
