Fresh political tension is building across Nigeria following the recent meeting between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, amid intensifying conversations over the future political direction of Rivers State.
The development is coming at a time when social media spaces are already saturated with reports and political calculations surrounding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s strained relationship with Wike’s political structure. The visit has now added fresh fuel to nationwide speculations, with many political observers linking the meeting to alleged underground consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
A major name repeatedly surfacing in those discussions is Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, a former Rivers State Commissioner for Works and long time ally of Wike. Recent political reports and online conversations have claimed that George Kelly is emerging as one of the strongest figures within Wike’s political camp ahead of future political permutations in Rivers State.
Several reports published in recent days alleged that George-Kelly may be receiving quiet political backing from influential stakeholders loyal to Wike, especially within circles aligned with the APC in Rivers State. However, no official declaration has been made by Wike, the APC leadership, or George-Kelly himself confirming any governorship endorsement or succession arrangement.
On social media, reactions have exploded. While some Nigerians believe the meeting between Wike and the APC chairman may simply be part of broader political consultations, others insist it could signal deeper strategic planning connected to Rivers State’s next political chapter. Discussions on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms have continued to trend around the possibility of political realignments, loyalty battles, and succession calculations within Rivers politics.
