Born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Alex Ekubo was one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actors, admired for his charisma, tall frame, and commanding screen presence. Originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, he was fluent in English, Igbo, and Hausa, which helped him connect with audiences across Nigeria.
For his education, Ekubo attended Federal Government College, Daura, before studying Law at the University of Calabar. He later earned a degree in Mass Communication from Calabar Polytechnic, reflecting his strong interest in media and communication.
Ekubo first came into the spotlight in 2010 after emerging as the first runner-up in the Mr Nigeria competition. The achievement opened doors for him in modelling and entertainment, eventually leading to a successful acting career in Nollywood.
He began acting professionally in the early 2010s and quickly became a familiar face in Nigerian cinema. Over the years, he featured in several popular films, including Lagos Cougars, Weekend Getaway, In the Cupboard, Dream Walker, Hire a Woman, Sugar Rush, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, and Fate of Alakada.
Known for his performances in romantic comedies and contemporary drama films, Ekubo built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s leading actors, earning admiration for both his versatility and screen appeal.
Beyond entertainment, he was also involved in humanitarian and social impact initiatives. His influence earned him recognition among the Most Influential People of African Descent Top 100 Under 40 Hall of Fame.
Throughout his career, Ekubo received several awards and nominations, including honours from the BEFFTA Awards, Screen Nation Awards, Best of Nollywood Awards, and other international film festival platforms for his contributions to film and charity work.
Outside acting, he remained a prominent figure in fashion, social advocacy, and public life, maintaining a strong influence within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
