The Federal Government has set a target of creating two million jobs in Nigeria’s creative industry by 2030, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has disclosed.

Musawa made the disclosure on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the closing of the 2026 Kano Creative Summit, organised by the National Theatre to strengthen Nigeria’s creative economy and equip practitioners with skills for sustainable businesses.

According to the minister, the Federal Government is integrating the creative sector into its economic development strategy through the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Destination Nigeria initiative.

She described Kano’s rich cultural heritage as a major economic asset, highlighting traditional industries including Kofar Mata indigo dyeing, leatherwork, weaving, blacksmithing, embroidery and Kannywood as areas with significant potential for job creation.

Musawa urged creative practitioners to treat their activities as structured businesses by protecting their intellectual property, separating personal and business finances, understanding production costs and strengthening professional associations.

She also called for the revival of idle cultural sites and community-based training programmes to transfer traditional skills to younger generations.

Participants at the summit also called for stronger government support through skills development, grants and affordable financing, digital training and institutional support for creative businesses.

The development comes as the government seeks to position Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries as important contributors to employment, investment and economic diversification.
