Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has argued that President Bola Tinubu is not the primary cause of Nigeria’s problems, pointing instead to entrenched corruption and weak institutions as the country’s deeper crisis.
Speaking on the Good News Naija podcast, Kuti questioned why the judiciary and other institutions failed to prevent Tinubu from contesting the 2023 presidential election if allegations against him were credible. He argued that a system populated by people of integrity would have properly addressed such concerns.
Kuti also criticised Nigeria’s political elite, saying individuals accused of corruption frequently move between successive administrations, making accountability difficult and weakening citizens’ confidence in government.
He further warned that corruption has spread beyond government into wider society, describing it as a potentially “terminal cancer” if left unchecked.
The musician’s remarks come amid continuing public concerns over insecurity, inflation and economic hardship under the Tinubu administration.
