The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Simon Adewale, has withdrawn from the 2026 Osun State governorship election and endorsed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term.
Adewale announced his decision during a press conference late on Thursday, August 13, 2026, less than two days before the election scheduled for Saturday, August 15. He said the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders.
According to Adewale, his withdrawal was driven by his desire to place the interests of Osun State above personal political ambition.
He expressed confidence that Adeleke deserved another term to consolidate what he described as the administration’s achievements.
The development gives Adeleke additional political backing ahead of the closely watched election, although Adewale’s endorsement does not automatically transfer APM votes to the incumbent.
It is also the latest withdrawal by a candidate, following APGA’s Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, who previously stepped down and endorsed APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
